Best Laid Plans

It has been a trying week to say the least. I have been trying to write a blog post all week long. Things just were not falling into place. My computer had to go into the shop for repair as it was making a clicking noise after being on for about 4 hours. I figured this was not a good sign and since it is covered under the Apple protection plan, now was a good time to get it fixed.

Of course, once we took it in to the genius bar, the technicians could not replicate the problem. But they decided to order a bunch of parts in case they found a lot of problems. We had an appointment to take it in last Wednesday morning. They called around 3:30 p.m. and said it was finished.  Yes, now my computer was fixed, or so I thought.

Thursday morning I’m up early getting work done on my computer and at exactly 10:05 a.m., my computer shuts down all by itself. I tell myself not to panic. You have to understand I do not know the secrets of the internal workings of a computer. I let my husband do all of the technical things when it comes to computers. I tell my whole family, I am technically challenged!

I did do a hard restart on the computer. That has helped in the past. That did not work. My husband is not home, so I tell myself, just keep trying and maybe something will work later. I had boiled some potatoes and eggs for potato salad so I decided I would get that made. I go back to my computer and try to restart it again. Nothing!

Okay, I need to clean the bathrooms. That should keep me busy until my husband gets home. He calls at 11:30 a.m. and tells me he is one his way home and I tell him about my computer. He’s not very happy as the technicians at Apple said they replaced the left I/O board just the day before.

In the mean time he tells me to get on his computer and get an appointment at the genius bar for 2:15 p.m. in case the call he will be making to Apple technical support help line does not help.

The call did not help. There is nothing they can do, we need to take the computer back to the Apple store.

He goes back to the Apple store and they tell him since it was supposed to be fixed yesterday it would be the first on the dock when the technician gets back from lunch and it should be ready between 4:00 and 5:00. That’s just great as we live more than 30 minutes away and he would no sooner get home then he would have to turn around and go back. So he decides to stay and wait.

He checks at 3:30 and this woman at the Apple store says, “No it is not done and they will call him when it is.” Basically, you are being a pest and leave us alone.

At 4:45 p.m. he gets a call and they tell him it is ready. They explain the I/O board they put in the day before was bad. He thinks they really didn’t do anything to the computer before and the I/O board just decided to give out and die.

So I have my computer back, it isn’t clicking, it hasn’t shut itself down and I am backup and running, trying to play catch-up.

The moral to this story – The best laid plans will always be delayed because of technology.
